Konsep Karya

The artist group Tromarama (Febie Babyrose, Ruddy Hatumena and Herbert Hans) started to work on Domain as an attempt to examine the relationships between nature, living creatures and the internet world, and how the spaces for humans and other living creatures nowadays are often simulated through technological devices. An early inspiration for this work sparked when the artist trio visited a restaurant in one of the shopping malls in West Jakarta. Inside the restaurant, a group of Humboldt penguin is kept in an indoor aviary where a video projection of a seascape is played repeatedly. In Domain, Tromarama have intentionally processed the color spectrum of the sea imagery in their video based on the dominant tendency in penguin eyesight, which is more sensitive to purple, blue and green hues. They also present the sounds they recorded from the restaurant. The distortion of sound and the sea image in this work are simultaneously influenced by changes in weather data such as air temperature, air pressure and wind speed, of which data are taken in real-time and continuously from one of the weather forecast sites on the internet. Overall, the simulation and representation of nature in Domain are presented in their ambiguous form.
