Konsep Karya
Pest to Power atau Hama Memberkati adalah eksplorasi fiksi-nyaris-sains Natasha Tontey tentang perilaku unik kecoa yang terdiri dari kumpulan material nokturnal, homeopati, mudah beradaptasi, dan banyak akal. Termarjinalkan selama ribuan tahun sebagai makhluk pembawa penyakit dan diperlakukan sebagai spesies yang menakutkan oleh manusia, kecoa menanggung agensinya sebagai salah satu spesies yang dapat bertahan hidup dari banyak peristiwa kepunahan dan transformasi epos. Selain itu, penilaian terhadap kecoa dibangun oleh narasi biopolitik yang memfokuskan diri terhadap gaya hidup serba steril dengan produksi komoditas sintetis yang berlimpah, yang akhirnya menempatkan kecoa sebagai makhluk periferal di luar gelembung kehidupan manusia. Secara imajiner, Natasha mencoba menekankan gagasan world-building atau pembangunan dunia melalui karakter-karakter dalam karyanya. Sebagai usaha menekankan aspek ini, ia juga menampilkan sebuah performans pembacaan teks yang diambil dari buku kecoa Pest to Power. Selain menjadi manifestasi nyata dari karakter 3D dalam karya ini, performans adalah tindakan meniru keberadaan kecoa, makhluk yang diabaikan namun selalu dianggap mengancam manusia.

Pest to Power or Hama Memberkati is Natasha Tontey s science-quasi-fictional quest into a peculiar behaviour of cockroach that is constituted as an assemblage of nocturnal, habitable, homeopathic, and resourceful material. Being marginalised for thousand years as a creature carrying diseases and treated as a fearsome species by the human counterpart, the judgment toward cockroach is built by the hyper-sterilised biopolitics idea of proper lifestyle in which overproduction of synthetic commodity and human dis-attachment to waste generates cockroach as a peripheral creature outside human s sphere. In an imaginary gesture, Natasha attempts to emphasize the the idea of world-building through the characters in her work. In order to extend this approach, a reading performance will be held, which consists of reading passages from Pest to Power published book. In addition to a real manifestation of the 3D characters in this piece, the performance is an act of mimicking the existence of cockroach, a creature that is somehow ignored yet considered menacing the human.
