Konsep Karya

Elia is an artist who focuses on explorations of critical discourses and narratives related to food. Früchtlinge--made during her residency in Berlin--is her reflection of problems surrounding food as well as the presence of immigrants and refugees in Europe. The work is addressed at our ambiguous reaction on what we consider “alien” and “exotic”. While “exotic” tropical fruits and foods considered good and valuable in Europe, people who come as immigrant and refugees non-Western countries often being rejected and often viewed as threats. While in Noble Savage, Elia tries to describe this ambiguity of judgement through a subtle irony, for example, by attaching quality control label on the seal and brand label of “Old Masters” on classical European still life paintings.
