Konsep Karya
Ilmu katuranggan (turangga = kuda) atau ilmu tentang kuda, dapat juga diartikan sebagai ilmu membaca tubuh. Di dalam Primbon Betaljemur Adammakna, ilmu katuranggan manusia sangat terelaborasi dengan baik, apalagi katuranggan perempuan. Banyak sekali jenis-jenis perempuan yang dijelaskan dalam primbon diklasifikasikan menurut gairah seksualnya. Ilmu katuranggan adalah tahapan dimana kita berusaha memahami organisme lain untuk menyatu dan memulai perjalanan bersama. Ketika pengendara dan kuda sudah bersatu dan mempunyai tujuan yang sama, maka konsep penunggang dan yang ditunggangi sudah tidak ada lagi; yang ada hanya bayangan, menandai jejak mereka. Dalam karya Women of Java, Agnes Christine menampilkan ditampilkan 35 jenis perempuan Jawa dalam bentuk “invisible painting” dimana lukisan hanya akan terlihat kalau lampu di balik kanvas dinyalakan. Tujuannya adalah untuk mengerti karakter seorang perempuan. Hal pertama yang bisa kita lihat adalah tampak fisik, namun untuk lebih mengenali seseorang lebih jauh, kita harus mengamati interaksi orang tersebut dengan lingkungan sekitarnya.

Katuranggan (turangga = horse), or equine science, can also mean a science of reading the body. In the Javanese literature Primbon Betaljemur Adammakna, human katuranggan is very well elaborated, especially female katuranggan. There are so many types of women described in primbon, classified according to sexual desire, too. Katuranggan constitutes a stage in which we try to understand other organisms to unite with and begin a shared journey. When a rider and the horse unite into one, having the same purpose, there is no longer the concept of rider and the horse; there are only shadows, marking a pathway. In Women of Java, Agnes Christina presents 35 types of Javanese women in the form of “invisible paintings” in which paintings will only be seen if the lights behind the canvas are turned on. The goal is to seek an understanding of a woman s character. Physical appearance is the first thing we see, but to better recognize someone, one has to observe this person s interactions with a surrounding environment.
