Concept

Karena kegigihannya, Men Brayut berhasil membesarkan anak-anaknya. Men Brayut merupakan perwujudan kesuburan perempuan.

This piece of work is a representation of a point of view, how material world caught by human's eye lens and identified by a system embedded in selfin this case, the one who watches. Such system consists of ideology, belief, social institution and empirical experience.

This installation piece is inspired by a visual part of a woman's body, breast that is. Women and their body are a subject that's been politicized and controlled in a culture from time to time. In this piece I don't intend to represent the woman's experience. I take a position as a man who feels the need of a perspective transformation on woman's body, such body should be a mean of justification for objectification of woman, but body is a mean of dharma. Nobody is born without the mercy of woman's body, the main kindness of a human being comes from dharma of a mother through her body.

Men Brayut is a character of a mother in a classic Balinese story who gave birth to 18 children. Because of her persistence, she managed to raise her children. This story is timeless, and always becomes a model of conversation for Balinese from time to time, from generation to generation. Men Brayut has been the embodiment of female fertility. I try to manifest this abundant story in an installation "Men Brayut"contemporary embodiment of a temple, a monument for the body who does dharma.
