Bakudapan is a study group that discusses ideas on food. They believe that food not only about cooking and history, conservation and ambitions to introduce it to the world. Food can be also an instrument to speak about broader issues, such as economic, politic, social, art, and culture. The food study group Bakudapan was initiated together with groups from department of Anthropology, Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta Indonesia. Their initial plan is to do cross references in research and practices about food, between Art and Academic and experiment other possibilities in both fields.

Re-Plating Mooi Indie

120 x 180 cm | Print on photo paper, lightbox
2018

Konsep Karya
"Mooi Indie" is a term European Imperialism used to depict the romanticism painting of the beauty of Dutch East Indies, like the beauty of natural landscape, the life of the farmer, the harmonic social living during the Dutch colonization in Indonesia. In 50's, S. Sudjojono, known as one of the founding fathers of Indonesian Modern Art, rejected to consider Mooi Indie as Indonesian art. He criticized colonialism for painting anything that didn't depict the social reality. Through appropriation of Mooi Indie paintings and turning them into foodscape using foodstuf, we criticize romanticism of food self-suffieciency, food independence and food sovereignty--the new kind of Indie Mooi--that exactly forgets the real problem like hunger, natural resource monopoly, land grabbing, the rise of transgenic company, and the gap of food distribution.
